A science park located in the Midlands that houses numerous innovative companies has been recognized as one of the top destinations in Europe for supporting start-ups.
The University of Warwick Science Park (UWSP) has been acknowledged as a leading hub for start-ups in Europe in The Financial Times’ inaugural ‘Europe’s Leading Start-Up Hubs Special Report.’
UWSP is the only Science Park in the UK to be featured in this prestigious list, showcasing the conducive environment and support services it offers for young companies to establish, grow, and succeed.
This report is based on extensive research conducted by the FT and Statista, a global data and business intelligence specialist. Thousands of companies were surveyed to identify the top 125 for accelerator and incubator programs in Europe, utilizing various research methods to compile the report.
This recognition comes as UWSP celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its history. The first site at the Venture Centre, opened by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1984, heralded the beginning of UWSP’s journey.
Mark Tock, COO of UWSP, believes that this recognition will attract more ambitious start-ups to join the thriving business community at UWSP and utilize the available space across the Science Park’s sites.
He stated, “Being selected as one of the top start-up hubs in Europe is a great achievement for UWSP. It validates the support we offer to start-ups, assisting entrepreneurs in minimizing risks and achieving sustainable growth.”
UWSP’s inclusion in the elite group of European business hubs underscores its successful track record of supporting start-ups over four decades. Initiatives like the Ignite Incubator program, Business Ready, and the Minerva Business Angel Network have provided vital support to over 700 companies and helped attract investment.
The partnership with the University of Warwick allows start-ups at UWSP to access top-tier talent, research facilities, and expertise, further aiding in their growth and success.
One success story from UWSP is Rightangled, a health company that offers various health tests and personalized treatment options based on patients’ DNA. Abdullah Sabyah, the founder, credits the Ignite program at UWSP for providing essential expertise that propelled the business forward.
Mark added, “Rightangled exemplifies how we can help a start-up evolve from an idea to a thriving business. We eagerly anticipate welcoming more innovative companies to UWSP and supporting their growth in the years to come.”
