Brussels – European representatives of trade unions and employers’ associations are releasing an extraordinary joint appeal to encourage citizens to take part in the European elections happening from June 6-9.
“In times of geopolitical turmoil, supporting and reinforcing European democracy is even more crucial,” states the appeal, emphasizing that “this is why the European social partners—ETUC, BusinessEurope, SGI Europe and SMEunited—are urging eligible voters in the upcoming European elections to have their say.”
As representatives of trade unions and employers from various European countries, “we stand together in our belief that voting in these elections goes beyond electing lawmakers,” the associations underline, “It is about securing a prosperous future for all and tackling the major challenges of our era.”
Trade unionists and employers assert that “as social partners, we recognize the importance of collaborating to guarantee that Europe remains the hub of thriving businesses and high-quality employment opportunities.”
“In a time when global divisions appear to be deepening, let us ensure that we express our opinions peacefully and democratically, and jointly create a promising future that benefits everyone, while embracing diversity, openness, and tolerance.”
The appeal is signed by Esther Lynch, Secretary General of ETUC; Markus J. Beyrer, Director General of BusinessEurope; Véronique Willems, Secretary General of SMEunited; and Valeria Ronzitti, Secretary General of SGI Europe.
