KATHMANDU, May 14: The European Union (EU) Delegation in Nepal is set to host the EU-Nepal Business Forum 2024 in celebration of half a century of diplomatic ties between the European Union (EU) and Nepal. This forum, occurring on May 15-16, aims to enhance European investment in Nepal, with a focus on sectors like renewable energy and ICT. Over 300 industry leaders, along with more than 1,000 online attendees, including top-level officials from both the EU and the Nepal government, are expected to participate.
EU Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, said that the forum will not only highlight investment opportunities within Nepal’s burgeoning sectors but also address necessary reforms to improve the business climate and attract more European investors. “The business forum is designed to showcase opportunities for investment in high potential sectors in Nepal such as renewable energies and ICT to our European private sector and to discuss further reforms in the business environment that are needed to attract further private investment,” said Lorenzo. As Nepal transitions to a middle-income country, increasing foreign direct investment is a key goal, with the EU supporting efforts to forge stronger economic connections.
The EU-Nepal Business Forum 2024 will feature comprehensive discussions on investment and partnerships, particularly in renewable energy, information technology, agriculture, agro-processing, and high-end tourism. Attendees will benefit from four main plenary sessions, sector-specific parallel discussions, and dedicated business-to-business interactions, including pitching and matching sessions.
Aligned with its commitment to high environmental and social standards, the EU is keen on promoting sustainable economic development through green and circular economy initiatives, and the creation of eco-friendly products and services.
