Accor, a hotel company, is ramping up its sustainability efforts by enhancing water “stewardship” initiatives at its properties and operations.
Headquartered in France, Accor owns well-known brands like Ibis, Mercure, Raffles, Fairmont, Novotel, and Sofitel. The company is concentrating on reducing water usage and enhancing water quality at its hotels.
Efforts include replacing bathtubs with showers in rooms, decreasing water consumption in food and beverage operations, and promoting guests to “Skip the Clean” to earn loyalty points by opting out of daily room cleaning.
If all multi-night guests choose to clean their room only every third day, Accor estimates it could save up to 4% of the group’s direct water usage.
Furthermore, Sébastien Bazin, Accor’s chairman and CEO, recently signed the United Nations’ CEO Water Mandate, a platform for major companies to exchange best practices and form partnerships to address water challenges.
Accor stated its commitment to progressing in six areas of water stewardship, including direct operations, supply chain, public policy, and community engagement.
Accor’s chief sustainability officer, Brune Poirson, emphasized the importance of water as a crucial resource that supports operations, the value chain, and the communities served. The company is determined to lead with sustainable solutions and experiences that benefit society and the environment, promoting collaboration over competition to establish new standards and drive water stewardship actions in all regions of operation.
