President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos is set to embark on a European tour next week, with scheduled visits to Germany and the Czech Republic from March 11 to 15.
The purpose of the trip is to strengthen relationships with these two nations and explore potential collaborations in key areas such as labor, trade, and innovation.
During his visit, Marcos will engage in discussions with his counterparts in both countries, focusing on enhancing labor cooperation and ensuring the safe and organized migration of Filipino workers.
The Czech Republic is looking to increase its quota of Filipino workers, recognizing their strong work ethic and skills. Germany, on the other hand, shows interest in collaboration beyond healthcare professions.
Expectations for the trip include the signing of agreements between Germany and the Philippines, such as a joint declaration on maritime cooperation to facilitate trade and movement on commercial vessels. Additionally, a collaboration program between vocational training institutions in both countries is anticipated to be formalized.
This European visit comes after successful visits to Manila by the Czech Prime Minister and the German Foreign Minister earlier this year, highlighting the Philippines’ commitment to building partnerships with like-minded nations that share democratic values and uphold a rules-based international order.
In addition to strengthening economic and labor ties, the Philippines aims to expand cooperation in defense and other areas. The delegation accompanying President Marcos includes key figures such as First Lady Liza Araneta, Senate President Migz Zubiri, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and relevant Cabinet Secretaries.
