Business Insider’s reporter recently traveled to Europe for a three-day trip from the US, where they spent $11,000. The bulk of the cost was for an overnight ride on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. The experience was described as magical, but the author wouldn’t splurge on such a short trip again. Despite spending most of the budget on the luxury train, the trip also included economy flights, cheaper accommodation, and a short stay in Paris, Venice, and Vienna.
The trip began with an overnight flight from NYC to Paris. After arriving in Paris, the author rested in a budget hotel before boarding the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express for an overnight ride to Venice. From Venice, they boarded another sleeper train to Vienna and flew home from there. Despite feeling queasy and bedridden for a portion of the trip, the author described the experience as amazing and worth it, though they learned that a three-day trip isn’t fulfilling for them and they will prioritize rest and exploration on future trips.
