ITA Airways this week commenced a new daily service from Rome to Rio De Janeiro.
The direct service, operated with Airbus A330neo aircraft, departs Rome Fiumicino airport at 21:50 and arrives at Rio de Janeiro international airport at 6:05 local time. The service from Rio de Janeiro departs at 15:45 and lands in Rome at 6:45 local time.
The Rio De Janeiro service is the third intercontinental route added this year to the carrier’s network, following the launch of flights to Washington in June and San Francisco in July.
ITA Airways chief commercial officer Emiliana Limosani said the carrier is looking to develop its network in line with customer demand “and where there is a strong presence of the Italian community in the world”.
“As well as covering a strategic role for business and cargo traffic, [the service to Rio de Janeiro] will further strengthen our expansion in South America,” she added.
The Italian carrier, of which aviation giant Lufthansa recently acquired a minority stake, will serve 52 destinations in the 2023-24 winter season, including 23 international and 12 intercontinental destinations.
The carrier currently flies to New York from Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa and to Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Tokyo and New Delhi from Rome.
